European office solutions company Ricoh have launched Europe’s first billboard powered 100 percent by renewable energy.
With eco-friendly credentials becoming increasingly important to consumers, European office solutions company Ricoh are literally signposting the way with the launch of Europe’s first billboard completely powered by renewable energy.
Consisting of 96 solar panels and five wind turbines, the billboard is positioned on London’s M4 motorway between the heart of the city and Heathrow airport. Steve Saito, Chairman and CEO of Ricoh Europe, explains that the eco-board is not just an advertisement for Ricoh’s Managed Document Services — their sustainable approach to streamlining business processes and document workflows — but a sign of their commitment to innovations in sustainable energy and reducing harm to the environment. They claim they don’t wish to simply meet environmental regulations but go beyond them, to the extent that if there is not enough wind or sun throughout the day the billboard simply does not light up. Ricoh’s first responsibly powered billboard launched in Times Square, New York City a couple of years ago and they hope the boards will themselves act as advertisements for eco-responsible living to the pubic. The video below gives more detail about the eco-board in London.
Just as we saw with the thinking behind WindMade, businesses are increasingly realizing the importance of showing customers just how green they are. Time to show off your own sustainable credentials to the world?
