Taiwan`s Machine-tool Firms See Production Lines Jammed

Influx of orders will drive sales through the third quarter for Taiwan`s leading manufacturers of machine tools, including Awea Mechantronic Co., Goodway Machine Corp., Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Shieh Yih Machinery Industry Co. and Hiwin Technologies Corp., whose sales grew between 20% and 50% year-on-year in the first half due to orders from home and abroad.
According to statistics compiled by the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), Taiwan exported US$10.1 billion in machinery in the first half, up 33% year-on-year, reflecting robust growth in sales to mainland China, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian nations), India, Germany and Japan. Many domestic machinery firms have received orders to fill production lines throughout the third quarter.
Hiwin, Taiwan`s leading manufacturer of ball screws and linear-motion devices, posted NT$6.415 billion in sales in the first half, up 93.37% year-on-year for an all-time record.
Shieh Yih registered NT$1.237 billion in sales in the first half, up 52.29% year-on-year; Falcon Machine Tools Co. saw cumulative sales grow 54.25% to reach NT$765 million in the first half; Kao Fong Machinery Co. and Goodway posted NT$816 million and NT$1.103 billion in first-half sales, up 34.63% and 30.42% year-on-year respectively.
Kao Fong said it has orders of NT$700 million. With sales reaching NT$816 million in the first half, the company expects to post NT$900 million in sales in the second half.
